Nadya’s great desire to have children, as well as her belief that other approaches should be pursued because the conventional approach had failed, prompted her to raise the topic, but Marcos was adamantly opposed to them. Their conflicting viewpoints caused a schism in the relationship, but it was her suggestion of IVF that forced him over the edge (in vitro fertilization). An egg cell is fertilized outside of the body and then implanted into a woman’s uterus in this medical procedure. Marcos clearly warned Nadya that if she went through with the operation, he would abandon her.
