M.I.A’s ‘Paper Planes’ was a worldwide success when it was released in 2008. The song, written and co-produced by Diplo, was arguably M.I.A’s most successful record of her whole career. It received widespread acclaim, reaching multi-platinum status in Canada and the United States. It also received platinum in the United Kingdom and gold in New Zealand. It lasted on the Billboard charts in the United States for ten weeks, reaching as high as third place.
