Van Wyngarden opted to write songs about rock star fantasies (“I will move to Paris and shoot some heroin”), however it’s unclear how sarcastically he meant it. “Some say we are drug addicts. Others detect sarcasm, while others see irony,” he explained, adding, “As a lyricist, that’s what I aspire for: confusion!””

‘I Will Survive’ – Gloria Gaynor
In terms of professional success, 1979 was the beginning of Gaynor’s downhill spiral. Donna Summer had already crowned Gaynor as the finest disco diver, but the 32-year-old had recently lost her mother and had undergone spinal surgery. These circumstances, we believe, contributed to the extra attitude displayed in “I Will Survive” Originally a B side, it went on to become a major song after being played at discos and by DJs.
